Combat climate change through technology

New pre-study contract for amine based CO2 capture at Mongstad entered into

The partnership behind the CO2 test centre at Mongstad, European CO2 Test Centre Mongstad (TCM), has entered into a contract with Fluor Ltd, UK, for technical studies of amine based CO2  capture facilities. The studies will form part of the decision basis concerning the building of an amine based testing facility, which final investment decision is expected to be made in 4th quarter 2008.

The partnership has previously entered into study agreements with Norwegian Aker Engineering and Technology AS and Canadian-American HTC Purenergy Inc./Bechtel Overseas Corporation. Amine based CO2 capture is one of the technologies which in the short run have the largest potential with regards to full scale cleansing of CO2.
- We wanted to strengthen our decision basis for the amine facility and thus decided to include Fluor in the offering process as well, says Bjørn-Erik Haugan, Managing Director of Gassnova, on behalf of the partnership TCM. During early July, the three companies will be invited to offer their capture technology to the test centre at Mongstad.
The TCM partnership consists of DONG Energy, Gassnova SF, A/S Norske Shell, StatoilHydro ASA and Vattenfall AB.
