Completion of TCM is drawing nearer

- We are now 77% finished with the total project, and commissioning will start in a few weeks, says Statoil’s project manager Sverre Overå.

Last night, the biggest module built at Reinertsen’s yard in Murmansk arrived at Mongstad. That was a 350 ton heavy module required for flue gas conditioning for the capture plants of TCM.

While some part of TCM is drawing near completion, other parts are still undergoing assembly and construction. The amine plant is closest to completion. Then there will be testing of the various components, and thereafter system testing, before we start the initial testing activities in fall.

TCM will initially test two different technologies, from Aker Clean Carbon and Alstom, respectively, for capture of CO2 from two flue gas sources with different CO2 content. The objective of the testing is in part to qualify the technologies for large-scale cleaning of exhaust gas, while simultaneously developing cost-effective technology solutions.

Technology Centre Mongstad is the world’s largest facility for testing and improving CO2 capture. Knowledge gained will prepare the ground for CO2 capture initiatives to combat climate change. TCM is a joint venture between the Norwegian state, Statoil, Shell and Sasol
